Unfold — Privacy Policy

Unfold ("we", "us", or the "app") is a nervous-system reset app that helps you calm down in stressful moments with short breathing and grounding exercises. Unfold is built to be private by design: most of your personal information stays on your device, and the one feature that leaves your device (the SOS voice feature) is described in full below. The short version

Your onboarding answers, reset history, saved moments, and preferences are stored only on your device. We cannot see them.
We collect anonymous, aggregate usage events (e.g. "onboarding completed") with no personal information.
We do not collect your name, email, phone number, contacts, precise location, or any health records.
If you use the SOS voice feature, your spoken audio is sent, in real time, to our backend and to Deepgram, our speech-to-text provider, solely to pick the right guided exercise for you. It is not stored on our servers and not used to train any model.
Subscriptions are handled by the app store and RevenueCat; we never see your card details.

Information stored on your device only

To personalize your experience, the app stores your onboarding answers, reset/session history and feedback, and saved moments & preferences locally on your device, in a private on-device database. This is not transmitted to us or any server. You can remove all of it by deleting the app.

Anonymous analytics we collect

To improve the app we collect a small set of anonymous product events. For each event we receive only: the event name (e.g. onboarding_started), a random, app-generated identifier not linked to you, and a timestamp. We do not send your answers, stress patterns, reset content, notes, audio, or any personal identifiers. Analytics are processed by Supabase on our behalf, and can be disabled entirely in the app build.

Microphone and voice

Some features let you tap "SOS" and speak a few words so the app can offer the right kind of support. Here is exactly what happens to that audio:

Your device streams the recorded audio, over an encrypted connection, to Unfold's own backend (hosted on Railway).
Our backend forwards the audio to Deepgram, a third-party speech-to-text service, which converts it to text so the app can understand what kind of support you need.
That text is used only to select one of a small set of pre-written guided exercises (for example, a breathing or grounding exercise). It is never shown to us, read by a person, or used for anything else.
We do not store your audio or transcript on Unfold's servers. Our backend logs only a word count and timing information for reliability purposes — never the words you said.
We send every request to Deepgram with its data-protection ("model improvement opt-out") setting enabled, instructing Deepgram not to retain your audio for its own model training.
We do not use your voice, audio, or transcript to train any model — Unfold's or anyone else's.

If you do not use the SOS voice feature, no audio ever leaves your device.

Subscriptions and payments

Unfold offers optional paid subscriptions (monthly and annual, with a free trial on the annual plan). Purchases are processed by the app store's billing system, and subscription status is managed by RevenueCat, under their own privacy policies. We never receive or store your payment-card details.

Service providers

We work with the following service providers, who process data on our behalf under their own privacy and security terms. None of them are permitted to use your data for their own independent purposes:

Google Play Billing — processes purchases.
RevenueCat — manages subscription status.
Supabase — receives the anonymous analytics events described above.
Railway — hosts Unfold's backend server.
Deepgram — converts SOS voice audio to text (speech-to-text), as described in "Microphone and voice" above.

What we do NOT collect

We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, precise or coarse location, advertising identifiers, or health or medical records. We do not retain your microphone recordings or voice transcripts on our servers, and we do not collect any free text you write in the app.

Data retention and deletion

On-device data stays until you delete the app or clear its data. Anonymous analytics events are not associated with you and cannot be traced back to you. Voice audio and transcripts from the SOS feature are not stored on our servers; there is nothing server-side for us to delete on request. For any data request, contact kartikgodoneit@gmail.com.

Children

Unfold is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (e.g. India's DPDP Act or the EU's GDPR), you may have rights regarding personal data. Because Unfold keeps your personal information on your device, only collects anonymous analytics, and does not retain SOS voice audio or transcripts on its servers, we hold no personal data that identifies you.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time and will update the "Last updated" date above.
